Frozen Plants

Winter Is Coming – Just Hopefully Not Too Soon!

What greeted our eyes this morning was frost on the trees, grass and parking lot. We have a school group coming at noon and we hope that the beautiful sunshine will warm the trees, melt the frost and icicles, and we will have a fun program.

We will have to keep the children moving, as the temperature will only be around 57 degrees F for a high temperature. Winter comes a little early to West Yellowstone, Montana, and everyone is getting ready.

This means wearing clothes in layers, so as you start to warm, you can take off those layers. Wearing a hat to warm your head but also protect you from glare of the sun which comes at a different angle than during the summer. Sunglasses are also a good idea to protect your eyes, not only from the sun, but from the occasional wind and blowing pollen.

Ragweed and goldenrod are moderate this time of the year. Most plants have already gone to seed, meaning that the seed pods are open and spreading throughout. It is why your eyes may still be itching. Usually a cold snap will kill off the plants, but they are quite hardy, so we might still see them for the next couple of days.
